Tulsa Classic to Benefit Paralympic Teams

2014 TULSA CLASSIC JUNIOR’S TOURNAMENT

To Support USAV Siting Program

Feb. 22 -23; Tulsa Expo Center, Tulsa, Okla.

First Tulsa Classic Junior’s tournament on Feb 22 and 23 at the Tulsa Expo Center.

The Tulsa Classic is a two-day Junior’s Volleyball Tournament that will attract top teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas that will feature club and open divisions. It will also function as a fundraising and promotional event to support the USA National Sitting Volleyball teams.  For every team registration fee, $50 will go towards the Paralympic Sitting Volleyball program.

Both men’s and women’s Paralympic Volleyball teams have been successful in the past winning Gold and Silver medals in the Pan American Zone. The men placed sixth in the Athens Paralympic Games and the women won bronze in Athens, silver in Beijing and silver at the 2012 London Games.

Recently, both teams had a good showing in the ParaVolley Pan American Zonal Championships, hosted at the teams’ training site at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. The women won gold and the men came away with silver, qualifying both teams for the 2014 World Championships.

At the Tulsa Classic tournament, participating teams and the audience will have the chance to personally meet Paralympic athletes, and purchase exclusive national team merchandise through fundraising bids during the event. Every junior team will also have the opportunity to play at least ten sets, with the chance to move onto the playoffs.
